Children born with hearing impairment can be rectified if they are identified in the early stages and brought to the hospital. Nelson Hospital has performed around 20 Cochlear Implant surgeries and changed the life of the children who were born with Hearing Impairment. The Switch On process of 9 children who had undergone Cochlear Implant surgery last month, was done today at Nelson Hospital in the presence of Nagpur ZP, CEO Dr. Yogesh Kumbejkar, Children who are born with hearing impairment are not able to speak because they cannot hear any type of sound. Parents are not aware that due to the children’s hearing impairment their children are not speaking. Due to lack of adequate knowledge among the people they delay the process of treatment of their children. But if these children are brought to hospital at right time and if the Cochlear implant surgery is done at right time then the child can start hearing and start speaking which changes the whole life of the children. Team of doctors Dr. Prashant Naik Senior ENT surgeon from Nagpur, Dr. Manohar Shaan Senior ENT surgeon from Mumbai, Dr. Pompy Devraj and Dr. NirajKumar team of Anesthetists , Mrs. Neelu Somani Audiologist and the team of Nelson hospital jointly performed this surgeries under RBSK scheme. Dr. Jeevan Vedi Prof. and Head of the dept of ENT from IGGMC, Nagpur also visited the hospital during the surgery was going on at Nelson hospital. Under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) under the guidance of the Civil Surgeon of Nagpur Dr. Devendra Paturkar, District Programme Manager RBSK Mr. Amol Gobragade, Cochlear Implant surgery was performed free of cost for the needy children at Nelson Hospital, Dantholi Nagpur.To boost up the team, Dr. Yogesh Kumbejkar visited the hospital and interacted with the parents of the children, interacted with the doctors team during the surgery last month and today also even after his busy schedule he gave time for these children and was present during their Switch On process at Nelson Hospital. He was excited to see the children hearing the sound for the first time in their life and appreciated the work of the doctors and the whole team of Nelson Hospital in this regard. While addressing the meeting Dr. Yogesh Kumbejkar congratulated the whole team of Nelson hospital for their noble work for the society. He said that all the children who are born with hearing impairment should utilize this opportunity and take the maximum benefit out of this scheme. He also appreciated the RBSK team who were present over there and the whole team of Nelson hospital for their involvement in this Cochlear implant surgery under RBSK scheme and wished them to continue this programme successfully in Central India.
